(So You Enjoy Your Photos—and Your Day)

Choosing your wedding photographer is kind of a big deal.
Like… they’re the person who will be with you more than almost anyone else on your wedding day.

So if you’ve been Googling “how to choose a wedding photographer” and feeling a little overwhelmed—you’re not alone.

Here’s the truth: it’s not just about finding someone whose photos you like. It’s about finding someone who understands you, communicates well, and helps your day feel easy instead of stressful.

Let’s walk through how to set expectations with your photographer so you can feel confident, comfortable, and fully present on your wedding day 💜

How to choose a wedding photographer that makes you feel so comfortable you forget about the camera.

Start With Wedding Photography Style (Because Vibes Matter)

First things first—let’s talk about wedding photography style.

Do you love:

  • Candid, real-life moments?
  • Light and airy images?
  • True-to-color storytelling?
  • A mix of guided + natural posing?

Your photographer’s style should match how you want your day to feel, not just how you want it to look.

Because here’s the thing—if you choose a photographer whose work feels natural and relaxed, you’re already halfway to stress-free photos.

If you’re still figuring out what you love, it can help to explore different approaches and see what resonates. (And if you want a peek into mine, that’s where the magic lives 💜)

Prioritize Communication Early On

Once you’ve found a photographer you connect with, wedding photographer communication becomes everything.

Before you book, pay attention to:

  • How quickly they respond
  • How clearly they explain things
  • Whether they actually listen to you

After you book, good communication should continue—not disappear.

For example, your photographer should guide you through:

  • Timeline planning
  • Photo priorities
  • What to expect on the wedding day

If you ever feel unsure, you should feel comfortable asking questions. Which brings us to…

Candid moment of couple entering reception and cheering.

Ask the Right Questions (Not Just the Obvious Ones)

Of course, you’ll ask about pricing and packages. But just as importantly, ask questions that help you understand the experience.

Here are a few meaningful questions to ask a wedding photographer:

  • How do you help couples feel comfortable in front of the camera?
  • What happens if the timeline runs behind?
  • How do you handle family photo organization?
  • What’s your approach during the reception—more candid or guided?
  • How do you handle unexpected weather?

These answers will tell you way more than a pricing guide ever could.

Additionally, resources like The Knot offer helpful question lists—but your gut feeling matters just as much as any checklist.

How to choose a wedding photographer that will get all the family portraits you want.

Be Honest About Your Comfort Level

Not everyone feels natural in front of a camera. (Honestly, most people don’t.)

That’s why it’s so important to be upfront about your comfort level.

If you’re feeling:

  • Awkward
  • Camera-shy
  • Nervous about posing

Say that 💜

A good photographer will adjust their approach to match your personality—whether that means more guidance, more movement, or just giving you space to be yourselves.

Talk Through the Timeline Before the Wedding Day

One of the biggest stress points for couples? Feeling rushed.

That’s why your photographer should help you build a timeline that actually works—not just one that looks good on paper.

This includes:

  • Realistic timing for getting ready
  • Buffer time between events
  • Space for candid moments

If you want a deeper dive into this, I break it all down in how to enjoy your wedding day without stressing about photos—because your timeline plays a huge role in how everything feels.

Building a timeline that will allow you to relax and get all the photos you want, including getting ready.

Align on What Matters Most to You

Every couple is different.

Some care most about:

  • Candid moments
  • Family photos
  • Party photos
  • Quiet, emotional portraits

Others want a little bit of everything.

The key is making sure your photographer knows what matters most to you—so they can prioritize those moments intentionally.

And if you’re not sure yet? That’s okay too. A good photographer will help you figure that out along the way.

How to choose a wedding photographer that will capture special candid moments.

Trust Goes Both Ways

Here’s the part that doesn’t get talked about enough:

Once you’ve chosen your photographer and communicated your needs… you get to let go.

You don’t have to:

  • Watch the timeline
  • Worry about lighting
  • Think about where to stand

That’s our job.

Your job is to show up, be present, and soak in the day.

If you want a few simple ways to make your photos feel even more natural, you’ll love 3 tips to better wedding photos (from a wedding photographer)—they’re easy, low-pressure, and actually make a difference.

Final Thoughts

Learning how to choose a wedding photographer isn’t just about checking boxes. It’s about finding someone who makes you feel comfortable, heard, and taken care of.

When expectations are clear and communication is strong, everything else falls into place.

And the result?
Photos that feel like you. A day that feels like you. And an experience you actually get to enjoy.

A Little Peek Into My Approach

If you’re looking for a photographer who:

  • Keeps things calm and low-pressure
  • Helps you feel like yourself in front of the camera
  • Handles the logistics so you don’t have to

Then you might be exactly where you’re supposed to be.

If you’re searching for a Lancaster wedding photographer who captures real emotion instead of stiff poses, you’re not alone.

In 2026, Lancaster couples are shifting away from overly staged wedding photography and toward something more meaningful — documentary-style storytelling that preserves how the day actually felt.

As a Lancaster wedding photographer, I’ve seen this shift firsthand. Couples aren’t just planning beautiful weddings. They’re planning intentional ones.

And they want photography that reflects that.

What Makes a Great Lancaster Wedding Photographer in 2026?

The best Lancaster wedding photographers in 2026 aren’t just technically skilled — they understand experience.

Lancaster County offers a unique mix of:

  • Historic estates
  • Riverside venues
  • Industrial spaces
  • Scenic farmland
  • Garden ceremonies
  • Park weddings

Each setting has its own rhythm. A strong local wedding photographer knows how to read that rhythm and document it without disrupting it.

That’s where documentary wedding photography comes in.

Couple enjoys their first look moment in a private spot near the Susquehanna River.

Documentary Wedding Photography in Lancaster, PA

Documentary wedding photography (also called candid or photojournalistic wedding photography) focuses on capturing your day as it naturally unfolds.

Instead of constantly stopping you to pose, a documentary-focused Lancaster wedding photographer will:

  • Observe moments as they happen
  • Anticipate emotional reactions
  • Use natural light intentionally
  • Step in gently when guidance is needed
  • Step back when presence matters more

You’ll still receive timeless portraits and family photos. But your gallery will feel alive — layered with movement, emotion, and authenticity.

Real Lancaster Wedding Venues, Real Moments

As a Lancaster wedding photographer, I’ve documented weddings at venues like:

  • The Mill at Manor Falls
  • Cameron Estate Inn
  • John Wright Restaurant
  • Lancaster County Central Park

Each one offers something different. What they all have in common? Real people. Real connection. Real emotion. And that’s what I’m there to preserve.

The Mill at Manor Falls

There’s something about The Mill at Manor Falls that just feels grounded and full of character. The historic textures, the stone walls, the way the light settles through the trees during ceremonies — it creates this intimate, emotional atmosphere that doesn’t need to be overstyled. It’s the kind of space where reactions feel bigger, hugs last longer, and the indoor moments feel incredibly meaningful.

Cameron Estate Inn

Cameron Estate Inn has this timeless elegance to it. The gardens, the open lawn, the estate backdrop — everything feels romantic without trying too hard. I love how naturally couples settle into the space there. It’s refined, but still relaxed. The kind of place where you can have an emotional first look under the trees and then celebrate with everyone you love just steps away. The Cameron Estate Inn also has beautiful indoor ceremony sites like the Conservatory perfect for a winter wedding. I had the pleasure of photographing a February wedding for YoungSoo and Christopher. You can find more about their wedding on the BLOG.

John Wright Restaurant

John Wright Restaurant has such a unique energy, especially as the sun starts to set along the Susquehanna River. Golden hour there feels calm and cinematic at the same time. I love the intimacy of riverside moments — couples tucked away for a quiet breath before heading back into the celebration. It feels personal, cozy, and a little magical. Caroline and James’ Wedding was full of memorable moments, including an osprey flying overhead during their ceremony… a perfect moment for these outdoor lovers.

Lancaster County Central Park

Lancaster County Central Park is perfect for couples who want something relaxed and beautifully natural. There’s room to breathe. Room for guests to spread out. Room for kids to run barefoot after the ceremony. It feels unforced and open — the kind of setting where genuine joy just happens without anyone needing to direct it.

Why Lancaster Couples Are Choosing Documentary-Style Wedding Photography in 2026

1. Intentional Guest Lists

Lancaster weddings in 2026 are becoming more intimate and meaningful. Couples are prioritizing presence over performance.

Smaller guest lists mean:

  • Deeper connections
  • Longer hugs
  • More visible emotion

A documentary approach captures those authentic reactions without interrupting them.

Warm embracing hug with mother and bride

2. Authenticity Over Perfection

Couples are rewriting traditions.
Wearing what feels right.
Creating timelines that breathe.

Luxury now means personalization — not perfection.

As a Lancaster wedding photographer, my role isn’t to control your day. It’s to protect it.

Couple celebrates with a unique exit from reception using glow wands.

3. Experience Matters More Than Ever

The biggest regret couples share?
“I wish we had more time to just enjoy it.”

A documentary-focused Lancaster wedding photographer allows you to:

  • Stay at cocktail hour
  • Eat your dinner
  • Be fully present during toasts
  • Dance without worrying about posing

Your photos happen alongside your memories — not instead of them.

Lancaster Wedding Photographer captures the couple's last dance of the eventing while family and friends cheer them on.

My Approach as a Lancaster Wedding Photographer

When you hire me as your Lancaster wedding photographer, you’re not just booking someone to show up with a camera.

You’re choosing someone who:

  • Cares deeply about emotional safety
  • Creates a calm presence on a busy day
  • Protects your timeline
  • Notices small in-between moments
  • Values all love and all identities

Yes, I care about beautiful light and composition.

But what matters most to me is preserving the feeling of your wedding day — whether you’re celebrating in downtown Lancaster, Mount Joy, Wrightsville, or the heart of Lancaster County farmland.

Years from now, when you open your gallery, I don’t want you to just see your wedding.

I want you to remember it 💜

Mariah and Chris had their first date at Starbucks, which is honestly such a cute start to a love story. So when we planned their Fort Hunter engagement photos in Harrisburg, we had to bring a little Starbucks energy along. A few photos with cups in hand? Yes, please.

These two are pretty different on paper. Chris is into motorcycles, video games, and skiing. Mariah prefers sleeping in, watching shows, and staying cozy inside. They are a self-proclaimed Chandler and Monica, if you’re a Friends fan.

They told me they felt nervous and uncomfortable in front of the camera. That’s totally normal. But once we got moving around the park, the nerves faded fast. We laughed a lot and the photos turned out amazing.

Why Fort Hunter Mansion and Park is Perfect for Engagement Photos

Fort Hunter Mansion and Park sits right along the Susquehanna River in Harrisburg, PA. It’s a historic site with so much variety. One location, tons of different looks.

Here’s what makes it so great for couples:

  • The mansion gives you a classic, elegant backdrop
  • The open fields are great for relaxed, natural photos
  • The tree lines offer gorgeous shade and depth
  • The river views add a peaceful, open feel
  • The grounds have tons of textures and spots to explore

It works for all kinds of couples. Outdoorsy, romantic, laid-back, or funny. There’s a spot for every vibe.

How We Made the Session Feel Like Them

We didn’t just show up and start snapping photos. We planned little details that fit Mariah and Chris as a couple.

The Starbucks Touch

Since their love story started at Starbucks, we grabbed cups for a few shots. It was a small detail, but it made the photos feel personal. That’s what engagement photos should be. They should tell your story.

Keeping It Relaxed

Mariah and Chris were nervous at first. That’s super common. The key is keeping things light and fun. We walked around, talked, and just let the moments happen. By the end, they were naturals.

When two souls find each other at just the right moment, magic happens. For YoungSoo and Christopher, their love story began on what they both thought would be their last online date. Ready to give up on dating apps, they matched with each other and decided to meet at The Mill in Hershey. Little did they know, this “final date” would lead to forever.

Their February wedding at Cameron Estate Inn in Mount Joy was a beautiful celebration of their unique love story. YoungSoo, a Korean Argentinean woman (born in Korea but raised in Argentina), and Christopher, who grew up in Latrobe, may have come from different worlds, but their connection transcended any language barrier. Christopher lovingly helps decode YoungSoo’s occasional “broken English” terms – true love speaking through every word.

A Winter Wonderland at Cameron Estate Inn

The February date called for an indoor ceremony, and the Conservatory at Cameron Estate Inn provided the perfect backdrop. With its elegant chandeliers and marble floors, the space created a warm, intimate atmosphere for YoungSoo and Christopher to exchange their vows.

After the ceremony, guests moved to the Carriage House for a reception filled with laughter, dancing, and heartfelt moments that I was honored to capture through my lens.

What Makes Cameron Estate Inn Special for Weddings

The Cameron Estate Inn stands as one of Mount Joy’s most charming wedding venues for many good reasons:

Historic Elegance

Dating back to the 1800s, this historic property offers classic architectural details that create stunning backdrops for wedding photos. The mansion’s vintage charm shows in every corner, from its well-kept gardens to its stately rooms.

The venue offers multiple settings for both ceremonies and receptions:

  • The Conservatory: Perfect for indoor ceremonies with natural light
  • The Carriage House: An ideal reception space with rustic-elegant appeal
  • Outdoor gardens: Beautiful for fair-weather ceremonies and portraits

The Perfect Setting: Lake Redman for Engagement Photos

Lake Redman offers some of the most stunning backgrounds for engagement photos in York County. Located within William Kain Park, this spot gives couples plenty of natural settings to capture their love story.

The park has wooded trails, open water views, and rustic wooden structures that make every shot look amazing. What makes Lake Redman special is how it changes with the seasons – from lush greens in summer to golden hues in fall.

Best Spots Around Lake Redman for Photos

The Wooden Boardwalk

The boardwalk at Lake Redman creates a perfect frame for couples. Surrounded by trees and overlooking parts of the water, it’s a spot where many couples love to pose. The wooden planks add texture to photos while the trees create natural light filtering.

The Water’s Edge

Getting right next to the water offers reflective shots that double the beauty. Jenny and Tom were brave enough to step into the water for some playful pics! The ripples in the water added movement to their photos.

The tree-lined paths throughout the park create tunnels of greenery. These spots work great for walking shots and candid moments between couples.

5 Tips for Planning Your Own Lake Redman Engagement Session

1. Pick the Right Time of Day

The best light happens during “golden hour” — about an hour before sunset. The warm glow makes everyone look their best! Early morning works too if you want fewer people around (you might spot a few dedicated bird watchers out enjoying the sunrise — they’re part of the charm 😉).

🌟 Pro Tip: Your photographer will check sunset times before scheduling your session. In summer, sunset comes later (around 8:30pm) while winter sunsets happen as early as 4:30pm.

2. Choose Complementary Outfits

For the first part of their session, Jenny wore a cozy maroon sweater while Tom chose a maroon and grey plaid shirt. Paired with classic jeans, their outfits complemented each other perfectly without feeling overly matched. The rich tones added warmth against the natural backdrop and photographed beautifully.

Later, they changed into something a little lighter for the water. Jenny wore a bright yellow floral dress that popped against the blues and greens of Lake Redman, while Tom kept it simple in khakis and a teal t-shirt that tied everything together effortlessly.

If you’re planning your own Lake Redman engagment session, here are a few style tips inspired by Jenny and Tom:

  • Choose colors that complement each other rather than match exactly
  • Rich tones (like maroon) photograph beautifully in wooded areas
  • Soft blues and greens work naturally with the water
  • Earth tones blend well with the landscape
  • Don’t be afraid of a pop of color — just keep patterns from overpowering your faces
Couple leaning foreheads together and smiling while the stand in the lake

3. Plan for Weather Conditions

Lake Redman can be windy! Bring:

  • Hair ties or styling products but if it is just a light wind, let that beautiful hair blow in the wind.
  • A cute jacket, wrap, or accent scarf for cooler temps
  • Bug spray in summer months (just in case)

4. Consider Multiple Locations

Lake Redman is part of a bigger park system. You might want to hit several spots:

  • The main lake area
  • The surrounding woods
  • The cute boardwalk
  • Nearby streams
  • Open fields

5. Bring Props That Show Your Personality

Make your photos unique with:

  • A blanket for sitting lakeside
  • Your pet (always a fun addition to sessions 🐶)
  • Something that shows your hobbies (books, sports gear)
  • A bottle of bubbly to pop!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a typical engagement session at Lake Redman last?

Most sessions last about 1-2 hours. This gives enough time to visit multiple spots around the lake and capture various poses and settings.

Do I need a permit to take engagement photos at Lake Redman?

For small, casual photo sessions with just a photographer and couple, permits are not typically needed. However, if you’re planning something elaborate with props or a large group, check with park officials first.

What if it rains on our scheduled day?

Rain doesn’t have to ruin your plans! Sometimes rainy photos turn out amazing with umbrellas and misty backgrounds. That said, I always work with couples to reschedule if the weather looks bad.

What should we do if the park is crowded during our session?

Weekdays and early mornings usually have fewer visitors. If we run into crowds, I’m good at finding quiet corners and using angles that make it look like you have the whole park to yourselves!

Can we bring outfit changes to our session?

Absolutely! Just keep in mind that Lake Redman has limited changing facilities. Most couples bring 1-2 outfits that can be layered or easily switched.

A Love Story Rooted Deep in Family Land

Rachel and Hunter aren’t your “do things by the book” kind of couple — and that’s exactly what makes them so special. They’re laid-back, fun-loving, and completely themselves together. Their love story started way back in 8th grade as friends, turned into something more just a few years later, and now? They’re celebrating nearly 10 years of choosing each other. 💜

At the center of their story is Rachel’s family farm in Palmyra, PA — a place that holds more memories than you can count. This wasn’t just land; it was their place. First date. First kiss. And eventually, a surprise proposal during a cozy family bonfire when Hunter dropped to one knee and caught Rachel totally off guard.

So when it came time to plan their wedding, there was never really a question. This family farm wedding — full of history, love, and meaning — was where they would say their vows. Rachel’s bubbly, quirky energy paired perfectly with Hunter’s calm, steady vibe, creating a wedding day that felt relaxed, emotional, and wildly fun all at once. ❤

Why Their Farm Wedding Was Pure Magic

From start to finish, this backyard family farm wedding was packed with moments that felt real and unforgettable. Rachel warned me there would be ugly crying during the father-daughter dance… and she absolutely delivered. 😭💖

There was a full-on cake smash, Rachel sprinting after the video drone in her wedding dress, and yes — keg stands to end the night. Because why not?

That’s the beauty of a farm wedding. It’s personal. It’s relaxed. It gives you the freedom to celebrate your way — without worrying about fitting into a venue’s rules or timeline. Being surrounded by familiar land helped everyone feel comfortable, present, and ready to have the time of their lives.

5 Tips for Planning Your Own Backyard Farm Wedding

1. Work With What You Have

Let the farm do the heavy lifting. Open fields, tree lines, and barns make stunning photo backdrops with very little added décor needed.

Wood floor barn beams frame the bride and groom as they stand with foreheads together

2. Plan for Weather (and Then Breathe)

Pennsylvania weather loves to keep us on our toes. Have a rain plan, consider tents for shade or storms, and think about heat or chilly evenings — then trust your vendors to help you pivot smoothly if needed.

3. Keep Guest Comfort Top of Mind

A few thoughtful details go a long way:

  • Clear directions and signage
  • Plenty of parking space
  • Clean, comfortable bathroom rentals
  • Seating options for older guests
Family farm wedding setup and entrance

4. Create Meaningful Photo Spots

Tell your photographer about the places that matter most — where you first kissed, where you got engaged, or that quiet corner of the farm you love. These spots make your photos even more powerful.

5. Add Personal Touches Everywhere

Family heirlooms, old photos, farm elements, or inside jokes woven into décor — farm weddings shine when they feel unapologetically you.

Capturing Farm Wedding Memories in Palmyra

Photographing a wedding on family land is something truly special. Unlike cookie-cutter venues, a farm tells your story. Every fence post, tree line, and sunset holds meaning — and that emotion shows up beautifully in photos.

Golden hour spilling through the trees, rustic barn textures, and wide open skies create wedding images that feel joyful, timeless, and completely authentic. 💕 These are the kinds of photos that don’t just show what your day looked like — they remind you how it felt.

FAQ: Backyard Farm Weddings in Palmyra, PA

How much does a backyard farm wedding typically cost?
Costs vary widely. While you may save on venue fees, rentals like tents, tables, chairs, and restrooms add up. Most couples land between $15,000–$30,000, depending on guest count and amenities.

When is the best season for a farm wedding in Palmyra?
Late spring and early fall offer the most comfortable weather and beautiful scenery. Summer brings lush greens (and heat), while winter weddings can be magical with proper indoor planning.

Do I need permits for a backyard wedding?
Check with your local township about noise ordinances, parking rules, and permits. Event insurance is often required, especially if alcohol is served.

How do we handle parking?
Choose a flat, dry area and consider attendants to help guide guests. Larger weddings may benefit from shuttle services from a nearby lot.

What about bathrooms?
If indoor options are limited, upscale restroom trailers with lighting and running water are a guest-favorite solution.

Your wedding day isn’t a photoshoot.
It’s a celebration. A love story. A big, emotional, joy-filled blur you’ve been dreaming about for a long time.

And your photos?
They should feel like that.

Stress-free wedding photos don’t come from being perfect or knowing how to pose. They come from a little planning, a lot of trust, and letting yourself actually enjoy the day.

Here’s how to do exactly that 💜

Couple skipping down pine tree lined road toward the camera having the time of their lives

Plan Ahead (But Leave Room to Breathe)

A little prep before your wedding day makes everything feel calmer once it arrives. Talking with your photographer a few months out helps us build a timeline that makes sense, focus on the moments that matter most to you, and avoid the “why do we feel rushed?” feeling altogether.

We’ll keep photo lists short and meaningful, choose locations with good natural light, and build in buffer time so the day flows instead of feels forced. (Because wedding days will run late—and that’s okay.)

If you’re a planner at heart, you’ll love digging deeper into how pre-wedding planning creates stress-free wedding photos.

Groom helps to fix brides veil during a relaxed moment of stress-free wedding photos

Trust Your Photographer (That’s Literally Their Job)

You don’t need to know what to do with your hands.
You don’t need to worry about lighting.
You don’t need to manage the timeline.

That’s what I’m here for 💜

When you and your photographer talk through your vision, comfort level, and any family dynamics ahead of time, you get to show up on your wedding day knowing someone has your back.

If you’re wondering what those conversations should look like, I break it all down in how to choose a wedding photographer and set expectations.

Couple laughing together during sunset on a bridge

Keep the Morning Calm & Cozy

The energy of your wedding day starts in the morning.

A clutter-free space. Soft music. Natural light. Your favorite people nearby.
Not chaos. Not rushing. Not twenty people asking you questions at once.

Having your details set aside and choosing a getting-ready space that actually fits your group makes a huge difference—not just for photos, but for your sanity too.

I go deeper into this in getting ready photos without the chaos, because this part of the day deserves to feel just as good as it looks.

Be Present During the Ceremony

This is it. This is the moment.

An unplugged ceremony, good lighting, and a slow walk down the aisle give your photographer room to capture real emotion—and give you the space to stay present with your partner.

Look at each other. Laugh. Cry. Take it all in.
I promise, you don’t need to think about the camera.

If you want to be intentional about this part of the day, planning ceremony photos you’ll actually love is a great place to start.

Enjoy the Reception (The Photos Will Follow)

Once the formal moments are done, let go.

Dance hard. Hug everyone. Sneak outside for golden-hour photos.
The best reception photos don’t come from posing—they come from joy.

I’ll grab the candids while you live your life, and if you want help balancing party time with photo time, reception photos without missing the party has you covered 💃

Lean on Your People

Your wedding party, coordinator, and photographer are your built-in support system.

Let them gather family members, smooth flyaway hairs, and keep things moving so you don’t have to manage anyone else on your wedding day.

Family photos, in particular, can get… chaotic. Which is why I share all my tips in how to keep family photos from taking over your wedding day.

Kelly helping bride fix her dress to make sure everything looks great for their first touch

Let Go of Perfect (This Is the Secret Sauce)

Something might go a little sideways. A timeline hiccup. A dress smudge. A surprise rain shower.

And honestly? That’s okay.

Some of the most meaningful wedding photos come from the unplanned moments—the laughs, the deep breaths, the “we’re married!” joy you can’t fake.

When you choose presence over perfection, your photos feel real, emotional, and full of life. I talk more about this in wedding day mindset: letting go of perfect.

Stress-free wedding photos happen when you trust the process and let yourself enjoy the day you worked so hard to plan.

If these photos make you think, “Yep… that’s us” —
you’re exactly my kind of people 💜

A Beautiful Day to Remember

Emily and Jeff’s wedding day was nothing short of magical! We started with getting ready photos at the Hampton Inn where the excitement was buzzing. Emily looked stunning as she prepared to meet her groom.

The day took us to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for the ceremony. The church’s beautiful architecture made for some truly breathtaking photos as Emily walked down the aisle. The ceremony was heartfelt and sweet, with many guests wiping away happy tears. After they said “I do,” guests sent the newlyweds off with a bubble exit that created the most fun photo opportunities!

The reception was held at Wisehaven Event Center, where the real party began. The venue was decked out with stunning decorations that matched Emily and Jeff’s vision perfectly.

Cozy winter in-home engagement session in Wrightsville PA

1. Declutter Key Areas

You don’t need to clean your entire house! Focus on 3-4 spaces where you’ll take most photos. Put away items that might be distracting in pictures (like piles of mail or random cords).

2. Plan Your Outfits Carefully

Wear clothes that match your home’s color scheme and each other’s outfits. For Wrightsville PA homes, neutral colors often work well with typical interior designs. Consider one casual outfit and one slightly dressier option.

3. Schedule Around Natural Light

Book your session when your home gets the best light. For most Wrightsville PA homes, mid-morning or early afternoon works well in winter months. We can work with what’s available, but good natural light makes a big difference.

4. Prepare Activities You Enjoy Together

This is your permission slip to relax. Think about what you naturally do at home – cooking together, playing board games, cuddling on the couch. These activities make for natural-looking photos that show your real relationship.

5. Add Personal Touches

Include meaningful items that tell your story – perhaps where you got engaged, gifts you’ve given each other, or things that represent shared hobbies. These details make Wrightsville PA in-home engagement photos extra special.

Most in-home sessions last between 1-2 hours. This gives us enough time to use different areas of your home and try various poses while keeping things relaxed.

Do I need to completely clean my house before the session?

No! Just tidy the main areas we’ll use for photos. I can always help move small items if needed during the session. Your home should still look like your home.

What should we wear for in-home engagement photos?

Wear outfits that make you feel comfortable and confident. Coordinate colors without matching exactly. For Wrightsville PA home sessions, layers work well as indoor temperatures can vary.

Can we include our pets in our in-home engagement photos?

Absolutely! Pets are family members and add personality to your photos. Having your session at home makes including them much easier than at outdoor locations.

What if our home is small or we don’t think it’s photogenic?

You might be surprised how beautiful your space can look through my lens! Yes, even if you think your house is ‘nothing special. Small homes often create intimate, cozy photos. I’ll find the best angles and lighting to showcase your space beautifully.

Surrounded by nature, their celebration was filled with intimate, meaningful moments — from the quiet anticipation of their first touch before the ceremony to the emotional moment they finally saw each other fully dressed. Family played a huge role throughout the day, especially Michelle’s mom, who lovingly handmade Michelle’s wedding gown, adding an extra layer of sentiment. With Michelle expecting, the day felt even more special — a beautiful celebration of love, family, and the beginning of a new chapter together. As the evening settled in, we captured romantic portraits among the orchard trees, glowing in the soft Brown’s Orchard evening light.

A Perfect Rain Plan at Brown’s Orchard

The setting at Brown’s Orchard in Loganville, PA offered a beautiful and meaningful backdrop for Michelle and Nicholas’s wedding day — even with rain in the forecast. While their ceremony was originally planned for the orchards, the weather had other ideas. The Brown’s Orchard staff were incredibly helpful, quickly moving everything into the enclosed tent and making the transition completely stress-free. Although the orchard views were tucked away during the ceremony, the tent created a warm, intimate atmosphere that kept the focus exactly where it belonged — on Michelle and Nicholas and the moment they became married. Once the rain eased, we stepped back into the orchards for portraits, capturing the natural beauty that makes this venue so special.

Capturing Special Moments

First Touch Experience

Instead of a first look, Michelle and Nicholas picked a first touch before the ceremony. Standing on opposite sides of a corner, they held hands without seeing each other. This sweet moment let them connect while keeping the surprise of seeing each other at the ceremony.

Family Connections

Family played a big role in this wedding day. One of the most touching details was Michelle’s wedding dress, lovingly handmade by her mother — a personal touch that added so much meaning to the photos. With Michelle expecting, the day wasn’t just a wedding, but a celebration of their growing family. I focused on capturing gentle, authentic moments that reflected this special season of their lives.
